ChristmasWith the last of our certificate level exams out of the way, the first year trainees have good cause to feel festive. Departmental Christmas lunches are well underway, and last night’s office Christmas party went down a storm.

Another of the NAO’s annual Christmas traditions, the carol service, took place earlier this week at nearby St Michael’s Church, and finally gave the NAO office choir a chance to perform the carols we have been practising since October! The choir led the congregation in some traditional carols interspersed with readings, and performed a few pieces on their own – including a jazzy number which went down very well with the audience. Afterwards we were rewarded with some well earned mince pies and mulled wine. We also sang in the NAO foyer at lunchtime yesterday (complete with Santa hats) to get everyone in the mood for the Christmas party.

As I studied music at uni, the choir was top on my list of groups to join when I first arrived at the NAO (along with yoga!). The choir is open to anyone in the office regardless of singing ability, and meets once a week at lunchtimes for half an hour. It’s a really nice way of meeting people from other departments, and gives the opportunity to do something completely different for a short time during the working day.

If singing is not your thing there are many other ways to get involved with NAO activities at Christmas – you could help to organise the Christmas party, donate to the charity tombola or take part in Christmas Jumper Day. Needless to say we are all thoroughly enjoying our first NAO Christmas!
